Moments in nature

Here I’ve gathered my oil paintings with nature as their subject. Many of these paintings are among my own favourites

Reeds

Sometimes nature serves up moments that make the brush practically beg to get to work. This painting was born on just such an evening in Turku, when the seashore was wrapped in the last and most beautiful rays of the day.

For this work, my biggest inspiration was the light. I wanted to capture on canvas the moment when the setting sun turns the green and brownish reeds an almost pure, shining gold. It’s a fleeting moment that lasts only minutes, but it makes the landscape magical.

Edge of the forest

“Edge of the forest” above was painted in summer 2026. This 80 x 100 cm moose painting came together over a few evenings. I wanted to pay tribute to the moose that move about in the dusk of evening and morning. I wanted to bring out all the beautiful shades of nature while somehow highlighting the almost grey moose. The contrast works nicely, and the moose blends into the terrain. The king of the forest reveals himself if you just stop to look.

Sunset in the forest

This sunset in the forest above is a 30 x 40 cm oil painting. It nicely highlights the warm glow of the sunset and its effect on the colours of the forest. It’s in the same style as the evening moment in “Reeds”. In all its messiness, this painting is one of my own favourites.

Cherry blossoms

The painting above is a 24 x 27 cm oil painting. I wanted to depict cherry trees in bloom. This painting is waiting for a little more work, as I want to deepen the shape of the forest. The “fixed” version will appear here once the painting is updated.

Akkasaari

This small painting shows the calm surface of Lake Korpijärvi and the little island of Akkasaari. In this painting I’m pleased with the use of colour and how the depth of the painting works.

Daisies

Daisies is one of my very first works. It comes from the time when I realised that creating is far more important than listening to my inner critic. What speaks to me most in this oil painting is its strong colours.

The neighbourhood birch grove

Autumn is nature’s own fireworks display of colour, and that inspiration positively glows from this work. It’s one of my very first paintings – a moment when I gave myself permission to play with pure, bright colours without any rules. It’s precisely those bold, luminous colours that give the painting its strong, living energy.

Birch treetops

These are the birches I like to gaze at after the sauna. I’ve captured this same view in three paintings of different sizes, and this is the largest of them. In this work, too, the playful yellows and oranges bring the landscape beautifully to life.
